Our R&D

Patients tell us how difficult it is to take their medication regularly and sustainably.

Our R&D program aims to optimize our solutions for the proper use of medicines, and to assess their efficiency in order to offer simple, customizable devices that improve patient care and prevent iatrogenic risks.

Research protocol

Usefulness of the Medissimo Infirmière application for supporting medication compliance in elderly people with chronic polypathologies.

Promoter: Association Rivages - 7 avenue de la République - 94200 Ivry sur Seine - France

Context

As a person ages, the number of chronic illnesses tends to increase.

Poor compliance with treatment, or interrupting treatment, exposes patients to health risksand their consequences represent avoidable costs for the healthcare system.

In practice, however, measuring medication compliance is not easy. Dedicated e-health devices represent a new way of measuring medication adherence, a necessary step towards improving it.

Objectives

Main : Evaluate the concordance of compliance measurement by the Medissimo Infirmière application used in an existing e-Health system aimed at improving the dispensing and monitoring of prescribed medication for people living at home, with reference measurements.

Secondary : Explore the user experience of healthcare professionals (pharmacists, nurses and attending physicians), with two aspects: use of the application itself, and interest in the reports generated by the application.

Research protocol

Report on medication compliance among people with multiple drug dependencies in France.

Editorial

In France, iatrogenic drug use is responsible for over 10,000 deaths a year, including 7,500 in people over 65. In 45% to 70% of cases, these deaths are avoidable. While the majority of chronically ill patients believe they take their medication without making mistakes, the figures from our exclusive Medissimo / Opinion Way / Notre Temps collaborative study reveal a general "can do better" attitude. Through this study, Medissimo wanted to gain a better understanding of the medication habits and routines of chronic patients aged 60 and over, 15% of whom take more than five different medications a day. Our aim was to highlight the levers and points of support that would enable us to offer you tailor-made support. Here's our assessment and advice on how to make medication your patient's true ally.

The study in a nutshell

Our study is the first to be carried out on a large, nationally representative sample of digitally autonomous, polymedicated seniors living at home, i.e. 1.7 to 1.8 million people in France. Revealing the intimacy of seniors' relationship with their treatments, our study highlights the extent of the discrepancies between declared and actual compliance. It points out the little arrangements and the big deviations, highlighting the difficulties encountered. It measures the weight of preconceived ideas and personal convictions, by relativizing the seriousness of arrangements and infringements, which are underplayed or kept quiet. Our study sheds light on warning points and enables us to identify three compliance profiles. In operational terms, it paves the way for tailor-made support by pharmacists in cooperation with other healthcare professionals. Thanks to their proximity and trustworthiness, pharmacists are an asset when it comes to winning patients over. And our solutions for the proper use of medicines are an opportunity to help you achieve this goal.

Compliance assessment

The compliance report is a summary table of medication taken, enabling treatments to be re-evaluated from the Pharmacist App and the Establishment App.

The assessment is available for each patient on the nursing and pharmacy applications.

The assessment provides a global and detailed view of compliance, and helps to better understand the reasons for non-administration at any given time. The physician's analysis of the assessment enables him/her to take action to encourage proper use of the medication.

Assessment of proper use

The "bilan de bon usage" is a set of summary tables used to identify at-risk patients and drugs from the Medissimo Pharmacien app.

The balance sheet is available to the establishment on the pharmacy application.

The assessment provides an overall view of the risks associated with medication at any given time. The physician's analysis of the assessment enables him/her to take action to promote the proper use of medication.

The MEDISSIMO platform offers a secure, traceable treatment service for patients at home and in residential care, including pillboxing of medicines in the pharmacy and treatment monitoring in cooperation with healthcare professionals and their families.

The platform brings together the pharmacist, who delivers the treatment with full traceability, and the patient or his or her homecare assistant, who fills in the dosages from the MEDIPAC® pillbox prepared by a healthcare professional, and the nurse, who monitors the treatment in liaison with the pharmacist and the family, and informs the doctor in the event of a medication risk.

In line with the public health priority defined in the national health strategy, the pharmacist - nurse - attending physician triad is at the heart of the platform designed by MEDISSIMO, with the aim of promoting the proper use of medicines.
